Nondegenerate internal squeezing: An all-optical, loss-resistant quantum technique for gravitational-wave detection

چکیده

The detection of kilohertz-band gravitational waves promises discoveries in astrophysics, exotic matter, and cosmology. To improve the kilohertz quantum noise-limited sensitivity interferometric gravitational-wave detectors, we investigate nondegenerate internal squeezing: optical parametric oscillation inside signal-recycling cavity with distinct signal-mode idler-mode frequencies. We use an analytic Hamiltonian model to show that this stable, all-optical technique is tolerant decoherence from loss it, its optimal readout scheme, feasible for broadband enhancement.

Squeezing in the audio gravitational-wave detection band.

We demonstrate the generation of broadband continuous-wave optical squeezing from 280 Hz-100 kHz using a below-threshold optical parametric oscillator (OPO). The squeezed state phase was controlled using a noise locking technique. We show that low frequency noise sources, such as seed noise, pump noise, and detuning fluctuations, present in optical parametric amplifiers, have negligible effect ...

Audio-Band Frequency-Dependent Squeezing for Gravitational-Wave Detectors.

Quantum vacuum fluctuations impose strict limits on precision displacement measurements, those of interferometric gravitational-wave detectors among them. Introducing squeezed states into an interferometer's readout port can improve the sensitivity of the instrument, leading to richer astrophysical observations. However, optomechanical interactions dictate that the vacuum's squeezed quadrature ...

Experimental demonstration of a squeezing-enhanced power-recycled michelson interferometer for gravitational wave detection.

Interferometric gravitational wave detectors are expected to be limited by shot noise at some frequencies. We experimentally demonstrate that a power recycled Michelson with squeezed light injected into the dark port can overcome this limit. An improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio of 2.3 dB is measured and locked stably for long periods of time. The configuration, control, and signal readou...

Squeezing and Dual Recycling in Laser Interferometric Gravitational Wave Detectors

We calculate the response of an ideal Michelson interferometer incorporating both dual recycling and squeezed light to gravitational waves. The photon counting noise has contributions from the light which is sent in through the input ports as well as the vacuum modes at sideband frequencies generated by the gravitational waves. The minimum detectable gravity wave amplitude depends on the freque...

All-optical logic circuits based on polarization properties of nondegenerate four-wave mixing

All-optical logic circuits based on the polarization properties of nondegenerate four-wave mixing are proposed. Schemes to perform multiple triple-product logic functions are discussed, and it is shown that higher-level Boolean operations that involve several bits can be implemented without resorting to the standard two-input gates. As a simple illustration of the idea, a circuit that performs ...
